The Villages Charter School (VCS) opened in August 2000 and is one of the most successful public charter schools in Florida. In fact, VCS has been a " High Performing Charter School ", earned a " School of Excellence " and has received 21 straight "A" ratings from the Florida Department of Education! This year, VCS earned the “ Cognia School and Systems of Distinction ” from the international accreditation group Cognia.
The Villages Charter School spans two campuses. Our Buffalo Ridge campus has three elementary attendance centers and one middle school building. Our newest campus, “Middleton”, opened in August 2023 with a K-8 center and a state-of-the-art high school complex.
VCS currently serves over 3700 students, kindergarten through 12th grades with an overall capacity of 6500 (500 students per grade level) across both campuses.

Description
The Villages Charter School is accepting applications for a Full-Time ESOL Assistant for the 2025-2026 school year. This position is located at Buffalo Ridge Campus. Applicants must have passed the ParaPro Assessment.
Scope Of Responsibilities
To assist classroom teachers in developing the skills of ESOL students and to assist administration in providing appropriate supervision for students during morning care, lunch, and dismissal.
Essential Functions
The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned:
- Assist the ESOL basic subject area teacher(s) in supervising ESOL learning activities.
- Carrying out learning activities as prescribed by the teacher(s).
- Listening to oral readings, reports etc. as assigned by teacher(s).
- Assisting with subject work and individual learning activities.
- Assisting the ESOL basic subject area teacher(s) in administering and assessing standardized and teacher-prepared tests.
- Assisting teacher(s) in correcting ESOL students’ homework and classwork.
- Assisting ESOL basic subject area teacher(s) in maintaining files and records relevant to ESOL students’ work and interests.
- Supervising students when teacher must leave the classroom for a short period of time.
- Helping with housekeeping chores in the classroom.
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have passed the ParaPro Assessment.
- Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instruction, reading, writing and mathematics.
- Must be able to relate well with children who have limited English proficiency or who are non-English speaking.
- Such additional or alternative qualifications to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Terms Of Employment
183 days – Non-Exempt. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of TVCS policy on evaluations of personnel.
