Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide leadership for the school’s athletic program through the development, implementation, and improvement of specific sports coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate the specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards.
  2. Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions.
  3. Assist in the coordination of the program.
  4. Assist in supervising students at practices and contests.
  5. Provide information for transportation, facilities, officials, and game management.
  6. Organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop student-athletes' potential.
  7. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury management procedures.
  8. Conduct team and self ethically during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship.
  9. Assist in the systematic return of all school equipment according to the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
  10. Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications.
  11. Successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  12. Fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development, including 4 hours at district-level meetings, 3 hours at school-level meetings, and 1 hour at outside meetings or clinics.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-athletes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Must have a Teachers Certificate or a valid Substitute or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a full or part-time employee in the District.
  • Employed as a teacher or administrator in the school where the candidate applies for the position.
