Job Summary
The primary role of a teacher is to provide students with educational activities that promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Teachers assist students in developing skills to become productive members of society.
Instructional Strategies
- Design and implement lesson plans aligned with the charter’s curriculum, reviewed by the dean of academics
- Include modifications for different learning styles
- Follow guidelines from the California Department of Education, charter policies, and regulations
- Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials to meet student needs
- Utilize data from learning style assessments to inform instruction
- Collaborate with special education staff on IEPs to ensure modifications are implemented
- Coordinate with staff to meet instructional goals and methods
- Oversee teacher aide and volunteer activities
- Integrate technology to enhance learning
Growth and Development
- Assist students in improving study methods and habits
- Use formal and informal assessments to evaluate progress
- Manage extracurricular activities as assigned
- Sponsor approved outside activities
- Serve as a positive role model and support the charter’s mission
Classroom Management and Organization
- Prepare the classroom to support learning and development
- Maintain appropriate student behavior according to the student handbook
- Ensure safety and proper use of resources
- Participate in faculty meetings and staff committees
Communication
- Establish rapport with parents, students, and staff through conferences
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and community members
- Communicate information clearly and accurately
Other Responsibilities
- Engage in professional development activities
- Stay updated on regulations and policies
- Manage reports and documentation
Qualifications
- BA or BS in relevant subject area, preferably with emphasis in engineering or natural sciences
- California teaching credential or equivalent
- Highly qualified in core courses as per NCLB requirements
- Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and student management
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
