The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides occupational therapy services to students under the supervision and direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA works collaboratively with educators, school staff, and families to support students' academic success and participation in the educational environment by helping them develop or improve fine motor, sensory processing, self-care, and school-related functional skills.
Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist to address students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
Deliver therapy services to individual students or small groups in accordance with the OT's plan of care.
Collect and document data on student progress and performance during therapy sessions.
Assist with assessments and contribute to IEP meetings as requested by the supervising OT.
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to support student needs and generalize therapy strategies into the classroom.
Prepare and maintain materials and equipment used in therapy sessions.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy sessions, progress notes, and communication logs.
Comply with district policies, federal and state regulations, and ethical standards of the profession.
Participate in team meetings, staff development, and training opportunities as appropriate.
