Salary will be commensurate with Full Time, parallel years of experience.Administers first aid to students, staff, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing immediate emergency medical care.Arrests individuals engaging in illegal activities (e.g., juveniles, etc.) for the purpose of apprehending suspects to prevent further illegal activities.Assists community law enforcement personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within the school environment.Collaborates with community agencies (e.g., law enforcement, courts, health care, etc.) for the purpose of addressing individual cases and/or taking action regarding investigations, criminal activities, gang activities, vandalism, etc. for the safety and security of the school site.Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff, and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.Escorts students, assigned personnel and/or visitors for the purpose of providing direction, ensuring their safety, and providing site security.Investigates truancy, absenteeism, and residency of students leaving school not meeting graduation requirements for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.Investigates potential campus crimes and/or student related community incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts, taking appropriate action, and/or referring to outside agency for resolution.Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods and at student events (e.g., lunchroom, classrooms with substitutes, detention, dances, home games, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established guidelines, regulatory requirements, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment and a secure facility.Oversees drills pertaining to safety such as fire, intruder, severe weather, etc. with respective assigned schools for the purpose of ensuring students demonstrate correct needed behaviors within established guidelines and maintaining a safe and secure facility.Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. (e.g., crisis intervention, physical security, crime prevention, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.Patrol’s school facilities (e.g., grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring criminal activities.Prepares a variety of documents (e.g., incident reports, activity logs, criminal infractions, safe school violations, memos, letters, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.Presents information in a variety of settings (e.g., classrooms, parent meetings, staff orientations, etc.) for the purpose of informing individuals of campus security guidelines, law enforcement procedures and/or individual rights.Provides traffic and parking control for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lot/s.Responds to a variety of situations (e.g., accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources regarding campus security issues for the purpose of providing information, direction, and/or referral for addressing inquiry.Testifies in court proceedings for the purpose of providing information regarding alleged illegal activity.Trains with outside agencies for the purpose of improving procedures and relationships.Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Public Safety Officer (260 days)Blue Springs School District

Position Summary:The job of Public Safety Officer is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for identifying potential welfare, safety and/or student security, personnel, visitor and/or site problems; maintaining safety at school site by enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicating information and responding to inquiries; and providing emergency care to students and other individuals.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Skills are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: administering first aid and CPR; handling hazardous materials; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, regulations & laws; safety practices and procedures; and techniques for diffusing hostile situations.
Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate.
