TITLE: Pre-K TEACHER ASSISTANT

SUPERVISES: N/A

REPORTS TO: Principal and Supervising Teacher

JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in

order that students may learn effectively

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the general supervision of students in the halls, restrooms, playgrounds, or any other

area of the school campus

  • Administers, scores, and records, such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher

recommends for individual students

  • Works with individual students or groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills

initially introduced by the teacher

  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a

sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.

  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
  • Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
  • Assist with the supervision of students as assigned
  • Assists in planning and conducting field trips
  • Assists the teacher in materials preparation and in the instructional planning process
  • Attends parent-teacher conferences unless directed otherwise
  • Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date
  • Assists with such group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling
  • Assists students in the library or media center as needed
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing and makeup work as assigned by the

teacher

  • Checks and records student’s attendance
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student
  • Substitutes for short duration for regular classroom teacher
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence

of the regular teacher

  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students

as is expected of a fully licensed teacher

  • May serve in other approved capacities such as, but not limited to:
  • ISS Monitor
  • Lab Assistant
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
  • Supports the Hattiesburg Public School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Trustees
