*SEEKING IMMEDIATE HIRES***Must be available Monday – Friday from 2:00 PM -6:00 PM***** Up to 30 hours of Mandatory Paid School Age Child Care Licensing Training ***

Plainfield YMCA, a branch of the Greater Somerset County YMCA (GSCY), is currently seeking School Age Child Care (SACC) Site Supervisors who are cause-driven leaders who share our commitment to nurturing and supporting our children, promoting youth development, and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Under the direction of the SACC & Camp Program Director and Senior Program Director, the Site Supervisor is responsible for supervising a group of children at the site-specific location(s). This job is fully on-site, not remote.

The Site Supervisor creates relationships with the children and their parents while providing a safe, pleasant, and caring atmosphere during the school year. This position supports the work of a non-profit, committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of children in an afterschool site. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains group belongings including state binder, student information sheets, necessary medications when off-site, and first aid kit as per SACC Licensing Requirements.
  • Coaches and guides site assistants/counselors and children during all activities throughout the day.
  • Plans prepares, and implements daily activities for groups of 15-100 children.
  • Creates innovative games and challenging programs of activities for children (ages 5-13) which include Homework Time, Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play, and Snack Time.
  • Builds connections with kids and their caregivers - Positively greet them every day.
  • Maintains discipline with children during all activities under the guidance of the GSCYMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Works to teach a variety of activities, aiding in the supervision of all activities, including field trips, leading games, and any other small or large group activities.
  • Provides a safe environment for children and follows all required safety procedures in case of emergency.
  • Engages each camper by name and communicates with them to ensure quality, fun, and a safe experience.
  • Effectively communicates group needs with leadership.
  • Effectively communicates daily happenings and incidents to parents of students.
  • Handles all behavior, medical, and other incidents within their group, requesting assistance from leadership when necessary.
  • Developing an attractive, organized, clean, and stimulating space:
    • Cleaning and disinfecting of all equipment as per state requirements (daily or weekly).
    • Maintain site/room, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe manner.
    • Set up the site/room in advance of the children's arrival and clean up after the children's departure.
    • Maintains group belongings including state binder, student information sheets, necessary medications when off-site, and first aid kit
  • Keeps SACC & Camp Director apprised of situations requiring their attention as it relates to children's behavior.

Hours:

Must be able to work 5 days a week. If a flexible schedule is needed, please have it prepared during the interview. Depending on which school we place you in, your hours will be as follows till year-end, and for 2025-2026

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or a Bachelor's degree in childcare, education, or a related field.
  • OR have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children aged 5-12 years.
  • Must be capable of writing and executing daily, weekly, and/or themed lesson plans.
  • Must have experience working with children in a structured group setting.
  • Must have the ability to learn and think quickly to solve child-to-child situations.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

Mandatory Adherence/Training/ Licensing Requirements:

Adherence

Training

  • Attends all training, seminars, and meetings as required during Weekdays, Evenings, and Weekends.
  • Completion of Onboarding and New Hire Training within 2 weeks to 30 days of accepting the Hiring offer.
  • The completion of the health care provider's statement indicates that they are in good health and pose no health risk to persons at the center. Such a statement shall be based on a medical examination within the six months immediately preceding such person's working at the center. A Mantoux tuberculin skin test and results are required with the exam.

Licensing Requirements

  • Be responsible for directly working with children (care, supervision, or instructing);
  • Be registered in the Workforce Registry through NJCCIS with an updated professional profile record (salary/title/hire date);
  • Meet CCDBG health and safety training requirements, which include completion of the following training:
    • Health and Safety Basics
    • Identifying Child Abuse and Neglect – Mandated Reporting
    • Foundations of Child Development or Youth Growth Development
    • CPR and First Aid
  • Complete criminal background check
  • Staff must have proof of training uploaded and documented in NJCCIS.
