2025-2026 - Lower School - 5th Grade Science Teacher

Isidore Newman School seeks an innovative and self-directed Lower School Science teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year to design and implement engaging curriculum for 5th Grade students, focusing on collaboration within the STEM team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of instilling a love for science in children and converting knowledge across life science, physical science, earth and space sciences, engineering, and technology into an inquiry-based, project-based curriculum. This is a full-time position teaching Science to 5th Grade students, reporting to the Head of Lower School.

The successful candidate will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; work well with teams; and genuinely love working with elementary school students and educators.

The Lower School Science Department values innovation, collaboration, and energy. We seek a passionate teacher dedicated to inspiring students and fostering a love for science/STEM through inquiry-based approaches and innovative curriculum development. Our goal is to grow as hands-on, project-based science/STEM educators with a place-based focus.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in elementary education with an emphasis on STEM or in a STEM-related field; and 2+ years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of pedagogy and trends in primary instruction and curriculum design.
  • Practical experience working with diverse learners in elementary grades.
  • Professional orientation toward collaboration and innovation.
  • A reflective practitioner committed to self-improvement and lifelong learning.
  • Patience, perseverance, and kindness in working with students, parents, and staff; highly collaborative professional style.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and communicate effectively with colleagues and families.
  • Must meet federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Experience supervising hands-on activities and ensuring safe lab practices.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching early childhood and elementary-aged children in a collaborative environment.
