Job Title and Compensation

Title: Librarian, Elementary/Secondary/Facilitator

Reports to: Principal/Lead Librarian

Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule

Department: PreK - 12

Length of Contract: 10.5 months

Primary Purpose

Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources to help students develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure the library/media center supports instructional programs.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement
  • Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of library science; Ability to instruct and manage student behavior; Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience: Two years teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instruction
  • Work with teachers and students to implement effective instructional strategies.
  • Provide group and individual instruction on resource location and research techniques.
  • Consult with teachers on material use and scheduling for instruction.
  • Serve as an information resource and provide staff development on learning resources.
Library Programs
  • Plan library programs to meet student needs.
  • Assist in preparing bibliographies and curriculum guides.
  • Manage acquisitions, processing, and inventory of resources.
  • Develop and maintain community resource files.
  • Schedule instructional television programs and promote their educational use.
  • Create a conducive learning environment in the library/media center.
  • Encourage community and parent involvement.
Student Management
  • Enforce discipline policies.
  • Interact with students to foster positive attitudes toward the library.
Administration
  • Prepare budgets and cost estimates.
  • Maintain reports and records.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Evaluate and improve the library/media program.
Communication
  • Maintain positive relationships with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise clerical aides, student aides, and volunteers.

Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. Physical activities include climbing, stretching, and light lifting of books and boxes.
