Job Description

Your responsibilities as a Lead Teacher

KIPP North Carolina teachers are central to our mission to develop students' knowledge, skills, and character strengths. Responsibilities include:

  1. Instruction Preparation & Delivery
  • Review and facilitate KIPP NC adopted & scripted curriculum
  • Implement specific curricula such as Zearn for K-8 Math and Bookworms for K-5 ELA
  • Deliver lessons effectively following pacing guides
  • Create responses and documents to ensure student accountability
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction and adjust lessons accordingly
  • Incorporate feedback to improve teaching practices
  • Maintain accurate gradebooks and data records
  • Building a Positive School and Classroom Culture
    • Model and uphold school values and policies
    • Take responsibility for student achievement
    • Maintain a clean, engaging classroom environment
    • Develop positive relationships with students, families, and staff through regular communication and participation in school events
    • Participate in daily school functions like arrival, recess, and dismissal
  • Demonstrate a Growth Mindset
    • Collaborate with coaches to identify strengths and growth areas
    • Actively seek and incorporate feedback
    • Attend professional development sessions and practice clinics
    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

    • Deep commitment to KIPP NC’s mission and student potential
    • Passion for improving lives of students from marginalized communities
    • Valid North Carolina teaching license or willingness to pursue certification
    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant content area
    • Criminal Background Check clearance
    • Commitment to closing opportunity gaps
    • Enthusiasm, professionalism, and humor
    • Ability to monitor classrooms actively for 8+ hours/day
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more as needed

    Preferred Qualifications

    • At least 2 years of teaching experience in grades 2-5
    • Experience in high-performing charter schools serving low-income students
    • Success in raising achievement for marginalized students
    • Passing Praxis exams by September 2025
    • Fluency in Spanish (preferred)
    Additional Information

    Work Hours: M, Th, & F 7:30am - 3:30pm; Tu & W 7:30am - 5:00pm
