ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Junior High & High School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and developmentally appropriate science instruction to students in both junior high (grades 7–8) and high school (grades 9–12). This unique split role requires a dynamic educator who can adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs and maturity levels across a range of grade levels, while maintaining a consistent and cohesive science curriculum.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Duties

  • Plan and deliver science lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and state standards for both junior high and high school students.
  • Teach a range of science subjects depending on departmental needs.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students with varying abilities, backgrounds, and interests.
  • Design and administer assessments that inform instruction and evaluate student progress effectively.
  • Integrate hands-on experiments, technology, and inquiry-based learning to enhance student engagement and understanding.

Classroom Management & Student Support

  • Create a safe, supportive, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning at both junior high and high school levels.
  • Establish clear behavioral expectations and routines suited to developmental stages of students.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with parents/guardians and support staff.
  • Provide academic support and enrichment opportunities as needed.

Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Collaborate with fellow teachers across grade levels to ensure curricular alignment and share best practices.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with administration, colleagues, students, and families.

Additional Duties

  • Supervise student activities, field trips, or science fairs as applicable.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with an endorsement in 5-12 Science – All (Iowa endorsement 185).
  • Valid teaching certification/licensure or willingness to obtain.
