Elementary Education Teacher
Position Summary:
Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Essential Duties:
- Teaches any combination of reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma City’s Board of Education and any other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
- Translates lesson plans into effective learning experiences to optimize available instruction time.
- Uses fair grading patterns based on clear criteria.
- Maintains standards of pupil behavior needed for a positive learning environment, treating pupils with respect and dignity.
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, maintains records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents regarding pupil progress and school programs through conferences and other means.
- Interacts professionally and positively with pupils, staff, and parents.
- Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with staff to address health, attitude, and learning issues.
- Creates a safe, orderly, and engaging classroom climate.
- Participates in the implementation of the OKCPS School Improvement model.
- Maintains professional development through district-provided in-service and self-directed activities.
- Supervises students during out-of-class activities, including but not limited to cafeteria, field trips, playground, and hall duty.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Note: Alternative work sites may be necessary during health crises or disruptions, as determined by the superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Elementary Education or approved alternative certification.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Ability to work collaboratively, demonstrate self-discipline, and follow guidelines.
- Manual dexterity for writing and computer work.
- Visual acuity for reading and interpreting materials.
- Normal hearing and clear speech for communication.
- Physical ability to perform tasks including occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours as needed.
