Job description

This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support the health and nutrition of Crescent City Schools students. By contributing to the meal program's success, you directly enhance students' educational experiences through proper nourishment. The PK-8 Cafeteria Staff Member assists the Cafeteria Manager in preparing and serving nutritious meals, ensuring safety, sanitation, and federal nutrition compliance. The role requires teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to creating a positive dining environment. It is available as full-time or part-time, with potential for summer work and flexibility for occasional nights and weekends.

Our Food Service Workers impact students’ lives by:

  1. Preparing and cooking proteins, grains, vegetables, and other food items in coordination with the Cafeteria Manager.
  2. Following recipes precisely, measuring and mixing ingredients as instructed.
  3. Operating commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, and steamers.
  4. Baking, roasting, and steaming food, ensuring proper cooking times and temperatures.
  5. Setting up and maintaining serving lines, including steam tables, and keeping food at proper temperatures.
  6. Serving food portions to students and staff following portion control guidelines.
  7. Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment through cleaning and sanitizing.
  8. Adhering to safety procedures and Child Nutrition Services guidelines regarding hygiene and uniforms.
  9. Receiving, verifying, and storing deliveries properly.
  10. Interacting courteously and professionally with students, staff, and colleagues.
  11. Monitoring food quality during service to ensure satisfaction.
  12. Participating in training, including the annual 6-hour requirement under the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.
  13. Operating POS systems and recording reimbursable meals accurately.
  14. Supporting inventory and cash handling as needed.
  15. Engaging in school activities and events.
  16. Taking on additional tasks as required.
