This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support the health and nutrition of Crescent City Schools students. The PK-8 Cafeteria Food Service Cook assists the Cafeteria Manager in preparing and serving nutritious meals, ensuring compliance with safety, sanitation, and federal nutrition guidelines. The role requires teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to creating a positive dining experience. It is a full-time position with opportunities for additional work during summer programs and flexibility for occasional nights and weekends.
Our Food Service Cooks impact students’ lives by:
- Preparing and cooking proteins, grains, vegetables, and other food items
- Following standardized recipes and measuring ingredients accurately
- Operating commercial kitchen equipment
- Using proper knife handling and food prep techniques
- Baking, roasting, and steaming food items
- Setting up and maintaining serving lines, keeping food at proper temperatures
- Serving food portions following guidelines
- Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment
- Following safe food handling practices and HACCP procedures
- Adhering to safety procedures and Child Nutrition Services guidelines
- Receiving, verifying, and storing deliveries properly
- Interacting courteously and professionally with students, staff, and colleagues
- Monitoring food quality during service
- Participating in training sessions, including annual requirements
- Operating POS systems and recording meals
- Supporting teammates during peak times
- Assisting with inventory control and cash handling
- Recording logs and temperature charts as required
- Participating in school activities and events
- Taking on additional tasks as needed

- Hold or can obtain ServSafe certification

- Communicate and work well with others
Physical Requirements:
- Lift at least 50 pounds
- Stand and walk for up to 5 hours
- Work in varying temperatures
