Position Details

  • Pay scale: 220-Day Licensed Instructional Pay Scale
  • Position Length: 11 months/220 days
  • Application Deadline: Until Filled
  • Immediate Supervisor: Building Principal and Activities Director
Essential Job Functions

The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for coordinating and administering a comprehensive health care program for all student athletes, including immediate care of injured athletes. They implement injury prevention techniques, recognize, evaluate, manage, and rehabilitate injuries, and coordinate efforts among coaches, doctors, athletes, and parents. Ensuring players participate only when capable and following physician instructions is essential.

Develop and implement athletic training and sports medicine instructional programs that meet student needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Leadership qualities and effective communication with students, staff, and medical personnel.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainer Association and maintenance of standards.
  • Virginia Board of Medicine licensure eligibility.
  • Knowledge of Virginia High School League rules.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings for games/matches.
  • Update training procedures and train coaches annually.
  • Develop emergency health care plans, evaluate and treat injuries, maintain records, and ensure proper equipment use and safety.
  • Communicate with stakeholders regarding medical issues.
  • Maintain equipment and supervise the training room.
  • Conduct training for coaches, ensure CPR/First Aid certifications, and assist in safety decisions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Effective communication and interaction skills, ability to operate office equipment, and physical capability for climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, and lifting.
