Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide leadership for the school’s athletic program through the development, implementation, and improvement of specific sports coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards;
  2. Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all required sessions;
  3. Assist in the coordination of the program;
  4. Supervise students during practices and contests;
  5. Provide information for transportation, facilities, officials, and game management;
  6. Organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop student-athletes’ potential;
  7. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury management procedures;
  8. Conduct oneself and team ethically during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship;
  9. Ensure systematic return of school equipment according to the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
  10. Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications;
  11. Complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses successfully;
  12. Fulfill 8 hours of professional development: 4 hours at district-level meetings, 3 hours at school-level meetings, and 1 hour at outside meetings or clinics.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-athletes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Must have a Teacher’s Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (Provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a full or part-time employee in the District;
  • Employed as a teacher or administrator in the school where the candidate applies for the position.
