Job Title: Assistant Coach, Boys Basketball

Reports to: Assistant Principal/Site AD

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Tenure Track: No

Social Security Contribution: Required

Salary: Extra-curricular Stipend Group C

Purpose Statement

The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Coach.

The Springfield School District is Missouri’s largest public school district, serving approximately 25,000 students across 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools, and various alternative education and choice programs.

The Assistant Coach assists in designing and implementing the athletic program for the assigned sport, supervises coaching staff and students, uses sound instructional techniques, serves as a positive role model, and acts as a liaison with other schools, the community, and organizations.

Essential Functions
  1. Analyze opposition strategies to assess strengths and weaknesses for game planning.
  2. Assess student athletes' performance and provide feedback.
  3. Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay informed.
  4. Support activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets.
  5. Develop practice regimes to enhance athletic performance.
  6. Develop game strategies and plans.
  7. Evaluate facilities and equipment for hazards and improvements.
  8. Identify program needs and recommend expenditures.
  9. Manage program funding in compliance with policies.
  10. Implement practice schedules and related activities.
  11. Instruct student athletes to promote growth in skills and teamwork.
  12. Maintain records for compliance and reporting.
  13. Monitor academic eligibility and intervene as needed.
  14. Oversee student managers and volunteers.
  15. Represent the athletic program at various functions.
  16. Supervise athletes during all participation areas to ensure safety.
  17. Support students during college recruiting processes.
Other Functions

Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach to ensure effective operation.

Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)

Knowledge: Basic math, technical information, legal and policy knowledge, safety practices, injury prevention, and community relations.

Skills: Multitasking, first aid, coordination, organization, communication, financial oversight.

Ability: Schedule activities, analyze data, work independently and with diverse groups, problem-solve, and operate equipment.

Experience

Related experience with increasing responsibility required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of 60 college hours required.

Physical demands include lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping, and fine motor skills; work involves walking, standing, and exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury.
