We are seeking an experienced Faculty Instructor to support the U.S. Army War College Distance Education Program (DEP). The position is on‑site at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.

What will the Faculty Instructor at Terrestris do?

The U.S. Army War College seeks a dynamic and experienced Faculty Instructor to support the DEP, a rigorous two‑year graduate‑level program focused on strategic leadership, national security, and military operations. The role involves instruction across four online core courses and two in‑person summer resident courses. You will develop and lead an online elective and an advanced studies seminar, assess student performance in forums, written assignments and seminar discussions, and advise two seminar groups of approximately 18 students each year (military officers, government civilians, and international fellows). Demonstrated professional military education experience, particularly in a distance learning environment, is highly desirable.

What does a typical day look like for the Faculty Instructor?

• Develop and deliver graduate‑level instruction in core curriculum areas such as national security strategy, strategic leadership, defense management, and theater strategy and campaigning.
• Serve as a faculty advisor for student research projects and support individual and group learning through online forums, video conferences, and in‑person residencies.
• Facilitate online and in‑residence seminars using adult education best practices.
• Contribute to course design, curriculum development, and program assessment in collaboration with other faculty and academic staff.
• Conduct scholarly research and/or publish on relevant topics in strategic studies or national security affairs.
• Participate in academic governance, faculty development, and institutional outreach efforts.

What qualifications do you look for?

• A minimum of a Senior Service College diploma and a Joint Professional Military Education Phase II qualification.
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate degree‑granting institution in a discipline relevant to the U.S. Army War College curriculum as listed below:
  • Strategic Leadership

• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a faculty instructor at either a Senior Service College or an accredited graduate degree‑granting institution. The experience must include:
  • Faculty experience in one of the major fields of study listed in subfactor 2.
  • At least one (1) of the years must have occurred within the last three (3) years.
  • Knowledgeable in concepts of adult learning, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Seminar Discourse, Seminar Team Building, and Reflective Learning.
• Relevant Technology Expertise qualifications, including but not limited to:
  • Online teaching experience using a recognized Learning Management System (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle).
  • Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint Portal), Microsoft Teams, basic writing and editing skills, and troubleshooting of login and connectivity issues.
  • Ability to perform word processing and data entry tasks associated with evaluating and electronically annotating student submissions in the LMS.
  • Experience or willingness to be trained on the visual and automation technology in the seminar rooms at Carlisle Barracks.
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence tools recognized in the academic community (e.g., ChatGPT, Ask Sage, Grammarly, Copilot, Perplexity).
• Battlefield Staff Guide – required only if quoting for the associated CLINS. Minimum qualifications include general American Civil War history knowledge for context, specific knowledge of the Gettysburg campaign and battlefield, and the ability to relate strategic leader competencies and course materials studied by USAWC students to events that occurred on the battlefield.

• In‑depth knowledge of Civil War history, especially the Gettysburg campaign and battlefield.
• Ability to connect leadership competencies and strategic concepts taught at USAWC to historical events on site.
• A PhD or multiple degrees in relevant areas, as well as teaching awards, citations, or previous academic promotions.
