Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Data Entry Operator (Nights 12AM-8AM; rotating schedule/weekends) in the Laboratory.

In this role, under supervision, you will prepare specimens for analysis, perform recordkeeping, data entry, and collection activities related to patient specimens, and support laboratory operations, including specimen receipt and registration. You will serve as a communication resource, facilitating information transfer internally and externally, assisting staff, and performing clerical duties such as accessioning, send outs, and handling critical calls.

Job Responsibilities
  • Verify patient specimen identification and test requests.
  • Prepare and accession samples for send-out testing.
  • Report critical values to medical staff.
  • Sort specimens with proper labeling for distribution.
  • Perform data entry and retrieval using automated/manual systems.
  • Centrifuge and decant specimens.
  • Maintain laboratory records according to protocols.
  • Manage inventory of supplies.
  • Follow safety policies, including PPE use, and maintain a clean environment.
  • Handle specimen accessioning, presorting, pickup, and delivery.
  • Support efficient workflow and notify personnel of issues like mislabeled samples.
  • Register billing accounts and accession pathology specimens accurately and timely.
  • Resolve specimen receipt issues and monitor patient data.
  • Adhere to Quality Assurance policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Document receipt issues and system activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including sample access and reporting critical values.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Business or related field
  • 1-2 years related experience, including coding, billing, registration, insurance
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital/laboratory computer systems
