Job summary

API Heat Transfer Career Center in Racine is hiring immediately for a Painter / Assembler on 1st shift (5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.). The role involves operating spray painters and inspecting quality of painted items.

Starting hourly rate is $19.00+, based on experience, with benefits effective from day 1 including a generous PTO plan and quarterly bonuses.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical aptitude and functional knowledge of hand tools.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator (may require being clean‑shaven).
  • Experience in industrial or production painting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand pick sheets to pull parts for assembly.
  • Operate spray painters and other equipment to apply coatings.
  • Monitor drying and curing processes for quality finishing.
  • Inspect painted items for quality and correct defects.
  • Prepare units for shipment by constructing skids and boxes.

Hiring immediately for Painter / Assembler on 1st shift (5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) at the Racine location.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Read and understand pick sheets to pull parts for assembly.
  • Operate spray painters and other equipment to apply coatings to metal or plastic components.
  • Monitor drying and curing processes to ensure proper finish.
  • Inspect painted items for quality and correct any defects.
  • Maintain and clean painting equipment and work area.
  • Follow safety protocols, including use of respirators and protective gear.
  • Assist in maintenance of paint systems and report equipment issues.
  • Produce finished components per specifications indicated on blueprints.
  • Check quality of parts, equipment, and assembled products at every step in the assembly process and notify supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Prepare units for shipment by constructing skids and boxes as required; paint, stencil, and affix nameplates as required.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of work area.
  • Comply with all ISO 9001 quality standards, policies and procedures of API.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Mechanical aptitude and functional knowledge of hand tools.

  • Experience in industrial or production painting preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use a tape measure.
  • Willing to perform repetitive tasks while sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate computer systems used to manage and track orders (Plex).
  • Meet required quality standards of your position and level.

Physical Requirements for Manufacturing Production Employees
  1. Standing – Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8–12 hours per shift).
  2. Walking – Frequent walking throughout the production floor.
  3. Lifting and Carrying – Regularly lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier items up to 75 pounds with assistance or equipment.
  4. Pushing and Pulling – Use of manual or mechanical means to push/pull carts, equipment, or materials.
  5. Repetitive Motions – Frequent use of hands and wrists for repetitive tasks (e.g., assembling, sorting, packaging).
  6. Manual Dexterity – Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to handle small parts or tools.
  7. Climbing – Occasional use of ladders or steps to reach equipment or storage areas.
  8. Visual and Hearing Requirements – Sufficient vision (with or without correction) to read labels, safety signs, and equipment gauges; adequate hearing (with or without aids) to respond to alarms and verbal instructions in a noisy environment.
  9. Environmental Tolerance – Ability to work in varying temperatures (hot, cold, or humid conditions); exposure to noise, dust, odors, and manufacturing chemicals; use of PPE as required.
