Job summary

Waukesha Bearings Corporation seeks a 1st shift Manual Machinist to set up and operate manual machines, primarily lathes, in a fast-paced shop in Houston, TX. The role requires reading blueprints, selecting tooling, and maintaining tight tolerances while following safety procedures.

Responsibilities include measuring parts with micrometers and calipers, applying Lean Manufacturing concepts, and ensuring quality through inspections. The shift runs 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

  • Experience with precision inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges).
  • Proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances (<0.001).
  • 1-year certificate from college or technical school; or 3–6 months related experience or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

  • Read drawings and process sheets to determine machining steps and setup requirements.
  • Identify, select, and install proper tooling for operations.
  • Set up and operate machines, calculate feeds and speeds for various materials.
  • Ensure quality inspections and adherence to production specs.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve productivity.

Job description

The1st Shift Manual Machinist will set up and operate manual machines, primarily lathe machines, to perform machiningoperations by performing the following duties.

The hours for this shift are: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm M-F.

Responsibilities
  • Read, process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done,dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
  • Identify, select and install proper tooling for operations being performed.
  • Calculate proper feeds and speeds for a variety of steel grades, copper, brass, aluminum and bronze
  • Intuitively understand capabilities of tooling and machinery.
  • Understand applicable quality systems and perform necessary quality inspections.
  • Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduced setup times and improve productivity.
  • Employee must be able to set up all necessary measuring equipment and routinely check thecalibration of the equipment while measuring.
Minimum required qualifications
  • Prior experience with precision inspection equipment including, but not limited to, micrometers,calipers, height gauges, bore gauges
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/ortraining; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and taste or smell
  • must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Material Hazards:
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
