Job summary

Michigan Turkey Producers in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a 1st Shift Machine Maintenance Technician Level 2 to perform hands-on maintenance on plant equipment, train and coach others, and ensure compliance with USDA and HACCP standards.

Under supervision of the Maintenance and Refrigeration Manager, you will handle preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and project work while prioritizing safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Journeyman or Accredited Certification in Machine repair or 5 years experience in machine repair.
• Electrical troubleshooting with PLC and VFD experience.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment and work in wet/cold environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
• Respond to line calls in a professional, safe manner with priority on down equipment.
• Track parts usage and manage replacement parts within budget.

Essential Functions of Role:

This is “hands on” non-production operation role; Meeting USDA, HACCP, GMFP, and Company standards, and under the supervision of the Maintenance and Refrigeration Manager, the functions of this role are to be responsible for setting example for other technicians through training and coaching; Responsible for performing preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, rebuilds and projects on all plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment in a timely, thorough, and efficient manner; Respond to line calls in a professional, safe, and timely manner. (Down equipment takes priority over all other responsibilities); Track parts usage and order replacement parts as needed within specified budget; Manage contracted projects from start to finish; Assist Refrigeration Specialists as required; Participation in HAZMAT.

Qualifications:

Journeyman or Accredited Certification in Machine repair or 5 years experience in machine repair; Electrical troubleshooting with PLC and VFD experience; TIG welding stainless steel to “food grade” standards; Good verbal and written communication skills; Basic computer skills; Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required for job role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions; Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the role as outlined; Must be able to twist, bend, reach, and sit for 8 hours or the duration of the shift, in a wet cold environment; Must be able to get underneath or mount equipment ranging from below grade (below floor level) up to 17 feet and in a confined space of 2’x 2’or larger to perform repairs and inspections (i.e., Stunner, IO Bird washer, elevated drives, Rotomatic, Schmidt Tumbler, etc.); Must be able to reach heights of 17’ to repair & / or inspect equipment; Must be able to physically perform continuous equipment repairs in a wet slippery environment for up to 10-12 hours per day; Must be able to physically perform equipment repairs in a slippery/uneven environment which includes but is not limited to slopped flooring, pitched flooring, steps throughout work areas, etc.; Must be able to lift, tighten (“tork”) equipment up to approximately 70 pounds; Must be able to safely & efficiently make machine repairs in a seriously demanding, challenging, fast-paced, high pressure and tense atmosphere.
