Job description

Description

Must have a positive attitude, be willing to learn and lift 50 plus pounds. Must be a problem solver with some mechanical ability.

Major Functions: Monitors the use and maintenance of extruder equipment while maintaining standard safety precautions and procedures.

Requirements

Essential Extruder Functions:

  • Understands the work flow between the weaving department and the extruder department.
  • Understands the difference between polyurethane and rubber materials.
  • Able to read measurements and cut product in accordance with order specifications.
  • Able to read and comprehend a production schedule, and can also understand and complete work orders.
  • Able to safely and properly handle (and lift) fire hose in all areas, including long lengths or reels to and from the tables, and stacking.
  • Able to properly prepare/skid product for shipment. Understands and maintains the company's quality expectations and ISO certification.
  • Able to assist in the department where needed and directed by the department supervisor.
  • Assists in training of new or less experienced operators. Keeps department clean and free of clutter.
  • Reports all issues/defects to department supervisor immediately upon discovery.
  • Knows and can identify proper tooling for all hose sizes and select based on order specifications.
  • Able to pick proper material for the scheduled run (rubber, PU, color, jacket).
  • Able to perform and complete set up of all equipment.
  • Able to set proper line speed for the product that is being run.
  • Reports any equipment maintenance issues to the department supervisor immediately. Able to make adjustments for in process material changes quickly and as needed.
  • Able to perform quality checks on the hose being produced. Maintains constant watch on the extruder and product during the extrusion process at all times.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Employee must be physically able to work in areas so as to not harm themselves or others, and must be able to safely use machinery and tools.
  • Has a basic understanding of how to utilize gauges and is able to read specs and charts.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a minimum of basic computer knowledge.
  • Must be a problem solver with very good mechanical ability.
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Must possess good listening skills and is able to take instruction.

Strength Requirements:

Heavy - Up to 100lbs of force exerted occasionally, and up to 50lbs frequently, up to 20lbs constantly.

Work Environment:

Employee may be exposed to wet and humid conditions and Dust/Fumes/Gas and Chemicals. Employee may need to work around extreme heat and moving machinery.

Education/Training Requirement:

Employee required possessing a high school diploma, or GED.
