Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections on company tractors using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trucks to verify all repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic control engines.

Summary

The Diesel Technicianposition is responsible for the inspection, service, repair and preventative maintenance of the various types of ATS tractors by using ATS and industry standard methods and criteria to make sure the tractor is safe to be on the road.

Education and Experience Level 3

1. Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/ or at least one year of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc.

2. Must be DOT certified or able to obtain certification within 90 days.

3. Must have brake certification or able to obtain within 90 days.

4. Must have OSHA tire training or able to obtain within a year.

5. Must have forklift certification or able to obtain within 90 days.

6. Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.

7. Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.

8. Effective communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

9. Good decision-making, problem-solving, attention to detail and customer service skills (internal/external).

10. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.

11. Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training

Level 2 have in addition to above

1. At least threeyearsof equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc.

2. Must be DOT and 609AC Certified

3. Must be able to MIG weld

4. Intermediate electrical diagnostic skills

5. Familiar with all diagnostic software programs

Level 1 must have in addition to above

1. Minimum of fiveyearsof equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc.

2. Must hold a valid CDL (A or B)

3. Advanced electrical diagnostic skills

4. Proficient with all diagnostic software programs

5. Experience with warranty submission

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform inspections on company tractors using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure that the tractors are operating safely.
  2. Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trucks to verify that all necessary repairs have been made.
  3. Performs repairs following ATS procedures within standard job times to get the drivers back on the road as soon as possible.
  4. Performs all necessary/scheduled preventative maintenance services e.g., oil and grease, air filters, cooling system nitrate, water filters, etc.
  5. Diagnose and repair electronic control engines.
  6. Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed and wear all required PPE at all times.
  7. Record all parts and repair work into computer system to track cost of repairs.
  8. Must meet productivity standards.
  9. Participate in online OEM training such as After Market Resource (ARC) from Freightliner and hands on training provided by OEM and Factory.
  10. Must furnish basic tools and ATS will provide specialty tools to perform functions of the job.
  11. Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.
  12. Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.
  13. Works within budget that is set for the department.
  14. Charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers.

  16. Required to work occasional overtime, Saturdays and other shift vacancies as needed.
  17. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  1. Constantly positioning self under, on top of, or in awkward positions to work on equipment.
  2. Frequently moving about to obtain tools, supplies, parts and to inspect equipment.
  3. Constantly uses hand tools and power hand tools to repair equipment, manipulate parts into position or enter data into computer.
  4. Constantly inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replace/repair.
  5. Intermittently communicates with others regarding work questions, processes, procedures and timelines.
  6. Must be able to move/position parts, tools equipment:
  • From 1 to 10 lbs. Frequently
  • From 11 to 25 lbs. frequently
  • From 25 to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Over 50 lbs. occasionally

Exposure to:

  • Loud noises constantly requiring hearing protection.
  • Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions.
  • Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals and odors constantly.
  • Situations requiring eye protection and steel toed boots and when welding, an approved shield.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $26.00 - $40.00. This position may be eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus, subject to eligibility requirements.Hourly pay rate offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work. In addition to the hourly rate of pay, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
