Qualifications

• AA degree or 4+ years of machine shop experience is required.
• Ability to study blueprints, drawings, manuals to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Knowledge of machining and tool geometries and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate NC machines and machining centers to fabricate parts.
• Study blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances and setup requirements.
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions for machining operations.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments and materials on mills, lathes and grinders.
• Calculate and adjust controls for speed, feed, coolant, and depth of cut.
• Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions and adjust as required.
• Verify conformance of finished parts with specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Set up and run a trial to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed data.
• Assemble parts into complete units using jigs, fixtures and hand tools.
• Collaborate with engineers and production staff to resolve machining or assembly issues.

For 80 years Rice Lake Weighing Systems has been a successful, growth-oriented company known as a leader in the weighing industry and our community. Located in scenic northwestern Wisconsin just 90 miles from Minneapolis, RLWS offers big city careers in a small-town atmosphere. We are currently seeking a CNC Set-Up Machinist and a CNC Operator to join our first shift team! All RLWS employees are expected to work in a manner in which quality of work and safety are top priorities. This is achieved by following safety procedures and work instructions and keeping the work area clean and organized.

Essential Job Functions And Major Tasks

• Set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate parts. May fit and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques
• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup requirements
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes and grinders
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media
• Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required
• Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using precision measuring instruments
• Set-up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
• Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools and power tools.
• May develop specifications from general description and create sketch of part or product to be fabricated
• May confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems

Education And Experience

• AA Degree in Machine Tool or a related field
• Or, Four (4) or more year’s machine shop experience.
