  • Perform machine setups, changeovers, and adjustments per procedures.
  • Verify product specifications and complete required quality checks and documentation.

1W/1U Operator1st Shift

Hours: 6:00AM-2:00PM (must report 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after shift for changeover)Pay Rate: $18.83 per hour

Position Summary

The 1W/1U Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining an extrusion coating machine. This position works primarily at the wind end of the machine and is responsible for material handling, quality inspection, machine changeovers, troubleshooting, and routine preventative maintenance. The operator must maintain production and quality standards while following all company safety procedures and standard work instructions.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safely off-load rolls of paper or chipboard up to 74" wide and 60" outside diameter.
  • Set up and operate the wind end of the extrusion coating machine.
  • Monitor machine operation and material throughout the production run.
  • Inspect finished and in-process material for quality and make minor adjustments as needed.
  • Identify and report quality issues or discrepant material to the Team Leader or CMR Operator.
  • Operate an overhead crane to safely maneuver large rolls of paper and other materials.
  • Perform machine setups, changeovers, and adjustments according to established procedures.
  • Verify product specifications and complete required quality checks and documentation.
  • Complete quality paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Cut cardboard cores required for the production schedule.
  • Properly label work-in-process (WIP) and finished materials.
  • Perform 5S activities, daily housekeeping, routine maintenance, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with die-cleaning activities.
  • Stock necessary support materials and supplies.
  • Follow all Standard Work, Job Instructions, SOPs, OSHA requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Participate in Tier 1 meetings and continuous improvement activities.
  • Rotate into other production positions as needed and perform additional duties after appropriate training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • GED or high school equivalent required.
  • 2–3 years of manufacturing experience preferred; extrusion coating experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, Job Instructions, and SOPs.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, thickness gauge, and other measuring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
  • Willingness and ability to rotate between positions and learn additional production duties.
  • Must successfully complete a minimum two-week training period and certification before independently performing all 1W Operator duties.
  • Must be willing and available to work overtime, including before/after scheduled shifts and weekends, as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk approximately 85% of the workday.
  • Bending approximately 10% of the workday.
  • Climbing approximately 5% of the workday.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. routinely and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to work on knees for approximately 10 minutes at a time periodically throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in areas more than 4 feet above the floor where appropriate guardrails are provided.
  • Ability to safely perform duties requiring the use of an overhead crane.
Working Environment

Enclosed manufacturing environment with temperatures generally ranging from 55°F to 100°F. Short periods of exposure to higher temperatures near the oven. Noise levels may reach approximately 94 dB. Work is primarily performed at a standing level. Must be comfortable working around operating manufacturing equipment and following established safety procedures.
