Job summary

Darnel, Inc. is hiring for a 12-hour extrusion line operator responsible for setting up extruders, adjusting dies, and maintaining product quality per standards. You will operate forklifts, record line data, and coordinate with maintenance for repairs.

The role requires reading and interpreting measurements, basic math, and clear English communication. Training covers multiple extrusion systems and safety protocols in a fast-paced plant environment.

Qualifications

• Forklift certification required.
• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Set-up/start-up extruder and adjust dies as required.
• String the line, doff rolls and grind scrap efficiently.
• Record and monitor line settings and respond to process changes to avoid disruptions.
• Ensure product quality using calipers, scales, micrometers, and other measurement devices.
• Complete quality control paperwork and data entry daily.
• Report machine problems to Lead Operator/Supervisor or Manager and coordinate repairs with maintenance.
• Maintain a chronological logbook for extrusion processes by shift.
• Maintain good housekeeping on machines, floors, and waste per AIB requirements.
• Operate forklift to prepare and retrieve raw materials for the next shift.
• Label, pelletize and stage finished product.
• Use PeopleSoft to report production, generate labels and consume product.
• Cross-training on all extrusion equipment and other duties as assigned.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Primary function is to monitor the extrusion processes while producing a variety of sheet widths and thicknesses of foam rolls as per order specification and report any machinery inconsistencies to the Supervisor, Shift Lead and/or Manager. To maintain Darnel safety & quality standards in all aspects of job performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 01. Set-up/start-up extruder and make die adjustments as required.
• 02. Efficiently string the line, doff rolls and grind scrap.
• 03. Record and monitor line settings and react quickly to any process changes in order to avoid major line disruptions.
• 04. Ensure quality of the product by use of calipers, scales, micrometers and/or other measurement devices or equipment.
• 05. Prepare and complete quality control paperwork, production tracking and computer data entry on a daily basis.
• 06. Report any machinery problems to the Lead Operator/Supervisor or Manager and communicate with maintenance the required machine repairs.
• 07. Maintain a chronological logbook for the extrusion processes by shift and document any shift issues or events.
• 08. Maintain good housekeeping on machines, floors, trashcans and waste according to AIB requirements.
• 09. Operate forklift to prepare, maintain and retrieve raw materials while ensuring proper set-up for the next shift.
• 10. Properly label, pelletize and stage finished product.
• 11. Use PeopleSoft to report production, generate labels and consume product.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 12. Cross-training on all extrusion processing equipment. i.e., blending system, vacuum system, screen changer, extruder controls, winders, etc.
• 13. Perform any other assigned duties or tasks requested by management.

PHYSICALS DEMANDS:

• 01. Vision correctable to 20/20.
• 02. Lifting up to 55 lbs. from floor to waist high.
• 03. Frequent bending and stooping.
• 04. Frequent standing the majority of the 12-hour shift.
• 05. Use a utility knife following prescribed safety regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lighting is good and temperatures will be hot in summer and cold in the winter. Earplugs, eye protection, steel toed shoes and hair nets are required in the production area. Gloves, face-shield and other various types of protective equipment must be worn when working around the extruder(s).
