Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher in Merrillville, IN. The candidate will learn, develop, and implement lessons, focusing on science of reading and technology integration to support student achievement.

The role requires Indiana teaching licensure, strong classroom management, and collaboration with Special Education and ESL staff to support IEP/504/ILP accommodations. This position runs from approximately Oct 25, 2026 to Dec 18, 2026.

Qualifications

• Valid State of Indiana teaching license for grade level and subject area.
• Ability to administer and interpret running records.
• Knowledge of science of reading framework.
• Willingness to work with Academic coach to implement research-based instructional practices.
• Strong communication skills including written communication and the ability to convey information clearly.
• Strong interpersonal relations and ability to collaborate with staff and administrators.
• Ability to manage pupil behavior and establish a positive learning environment.
• Knowledge of technology integration in instruction.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Belief in “Kids First” philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Learn, develop, and implement strategies and lessons.
• Implement science of reading strategies.
• Incorporate technology throughout instruction.
• Establish positive relationships with students; manage behavior; use classroom meetings and PBIS.
• Create and administer assessments to evaluate progress and create instructional lessons based on data.
• Plan instructional lessons following Indiana/state curriculum guidelines.
• Implement MTSS framework; maintain data and provide interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and administrators.
• Collaborate with Special Education, Title One/Remedial, and English Language Teachers to support IEP/504/ILP services.
• Maintain regular parent-teacher communication via email/phone/written notes.
• Participate in professional development and PLCs to improve student achievement.
• Update records as required by laws and policies.
• Implement corporation policies and programs.
