Job Description

Teamwork is the key to success in our Delis, where our teammates work together to take orders accurately, prepare fresh meals quickly, and serve customers with a smile. Schnucks Deli Clerks are devoted to providing the best customer service and the highest product quality possible. Without them, our stores wouldn't be able to provide freshly prepared sandwiches and salads to customers ready to eat a meal.

Job Responsibilities

1. Provide friendly and courteous service to customers, both in person and on the phone at all times
2. Maintain a positive work environment
3. Maintain cleanliness of work area, equipment, deli cases, and backroom, following company food safety and sanitation guidelines
4. Follow proper personal hygiene requirements
5. Follow proper time and temperature controls
6. Follow good food handling practices to prevent cross-contamination
7. Follow proper sanitation principles
8. Wear company-approved slip resistant shoes or overshoes at all times
9. Practice safe lifting procedures and be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
10. Wear provided personal protective equipment when required (e.g., cut gloves, goggles)
11. Be able to safely operate powered equipment once trained
12. Handle knives and other sharp utensils safely
13. Slice and weigh lunch meats and cheeses, allowing customer approval of slice thickness
14. Establish product knowledge, suggestive selling, and sampling to assist customer questions/requests
15. Fill, rotate, and date products for display
16. Operate slicers, scales, and wrapping equipment
17. Utilize cooking equipment such as fryers, rotisserie ovens, and steamers
18. Prepare sandwiches, party trays, salads, and special orders according to recipes
19. Ensure product freshness and proper rotation, assist with product production and restocking
20. Multi-task while prioritizing customer service
21. Maintain reliable attendance
22. Assist with other duties as assigned
23. Offer product samples to customers
24. Adhere to safety, health, and weights and measures regulations
25. Answer phones and take special orders courteously

Physical Demands

Tasks include bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, repetitive arm and hand movements, exposure to temperature changes, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Job Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Basic math skills required
• Flexible schedule, including nights, holidays, weekends
• Use of hair restraint (hair net or hat)
• Wear a clean uniform and name tag
• Use cut gloves and safe knife handling practices
• Use gloves during food handling
• Wear slip-resistant shoes
• Ability to identify spoiled or damaged products
• Food prep experience is a plus
• Team player with customer service passion
• Attention to detail

Additional Requirements – Internal Candidates

• Minimum of six months employment for store/facility teammates
• Minimum of one year employment for store support center teammates
• In good standing (not on performance improvement plan or discipline)
• Manager approval for interview based on performance
