Position Summary

To lead swim lessons for students of all ages and abilities based on the Kroc Center Learn to Swim curriculum, instructing students on swimming techniques as well as general water safety protocols.

Essential Functions
  1. Know, explain, and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army (TSA).
  2. Provide swimming instruction to students of all ages (parent & child; youth & adult lessons) and ability levels.
  3. Instruct swimming lessons based on the established Kroc Center Learn to Swim Curriculum.
  4. Ensure appropriate preparation for each class session, including preparation of rosters and all teaching materials.
  5. Effectively communicate water safety guidelines to students, using multiple tactics to ensure comprehension.
  6. Assess student swim abilities, providing feedback and recommendations for continued work, as appropriate.
  7. Communicate student swim progress to parents/guardians, and provide recommendations for further development.
  8. Collect student and parent evaluations, utilizing the Digiquatics Reporting System.
  9. Assist other Aquatics personnel with response to incidents and injuries, completing all necessary paperwork.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
  11. Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the high demands of the aquatics department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Possess and maintain current certificates in American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR, and AED.
  • Experience leading small groups of children; understanding of basic child development philosophy preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of aquatic instruction and coaching.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to interact positively with co-workers, management, leadership, and the public.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Proficiency in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Additional Skills
  • CPR/AED certification (preferred).
