Job summary

DC Army National Guard seeks an Interior Electrician to install and repair wiring in offices, hangars and other facilities. You will read blueprints, wire electrical hardware and ensure safety using test meters.

Training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training followed by 7 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This role offers pay during training and the path to a civilian electrical career after service.

Job Description

As overseers of electricity, Interior Electricians are valuable to the operations of the Army National Guard. They’re the Soldiers who light the way for their crews by installing and repairing wire systems in offices, repair shops, airplane hangars, and other buildings.

As an Interior Electrician, you will install and wire electrical hardware like transformers, junction boxes, service panels, electrical boxes, switches, and circuit breakers. This requires the knowledge of trade tools and the ability to read blueprints and wiring plans. You will also ensure the safety of electrical work and systems using test meters.

Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to enjoy a civilian career in commercial and residential contracting for public utility companies, commercial contractors, or as a self-employed contractor.

After 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will attend seven weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) where you'll learn what you need to get started as an Army National Guard Interior Electrician. As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities. Advanced Interior Electricians take on more challenging projects, including training and supervising other Soldiers, as well as coordinating, supervising, and planning of electrical layout.

Requirements

• Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
