Location: Spencer, IN 47460
Responsible to: Transportation Director
Supervises: None
Evaluated by: Transportation Director
Terms of Employment: 260 days, 40 hours per week
Evaluation Period: Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per SOCS Performance and Assessment Procedures; annual summative evaluation prior to July 1
Responsibilities of the Position
- Assist in planning, organizing, and operating the Transportation Department to ensure the safe transportation of students.
- Assist in all activities involving responsibility, dependability, punctuality, and attendance of transportation employees.
- Assist in the recruitment and training of transportation employees.
- Assist in budget preparation and implementation for the Transportation Department.
- Remain current on all Federal, State, and local regulations concerning transportation.
- Follow the chain of command and adhere to the goals, objectives, and policies of Spencer-Owen Community Schools.
- Exhibit appropriate personal relations with subordinates, peers, supervisors, the public, vendors, media, and governmental agencies.
- Maintain proper dress and personal hygiene for the position.
- Observe working hours, and follow proper procedures for purchasing, procurement, and confidentiality.
- Assist with minor bus and vehicle maintenance (e.g., checking fluids, changing wiper blades or bulbs).
- Be available on a rotating schedule for after-hours on-call and night/weekend trips.
- Assist with maintaining driver credentials, preparing for bus inspections, planning routes, and coverage for trips.
- Support discipline issues, ensure policies are followed, and assist with employee payroll and record-keeping.
- Help ensure transportation safety and compliance, including drug and alcohol testing policies and DOT physical requirements.
- Act as a substitute driver as needed, including routes for the Indiana School for the Deaf.
- Assist with vehicle maintenance documentation, communication, and video review.
- Plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Make sound decisions independently, handle confidential matters discreetly, and communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
- Establish effective relationships with students, staff, and the community.
