Job description

Mission Statement:

Position Summary:

The Lifeguard will uphold Program Safety Standards to ensure the safety of all individuals participating in the Red Shield's Aquatics Program. The Supervisor will oversee and implement aquatic program activities to meet the needs and interests of participants.

Essential Functions:
  1. Maintain constant surveillance of members/guests in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety in emergencies. Provide emergency care and treatment until medical services arrive.
  2. Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, maintaining high customer service standards.
  3. Perform maintenance duties to keep the facility clean and safe, including hose down of pool deck and locker rooms daily.
  4. Vacuum and backwash the pool weekly to ensure cleanliness and proper filtration.
  5. Maintain and properly store all pool equipment.
  6. Keep the pool office area clean and organized.
  7. Check and maintain proper chlorine and pH levels several times daily.
  8. Conduct daily safety checks of all pool areas.
  9. Ensure all pool doors, dressing rooms, and pool areas are secured after activities.
  10. Assist with or conduct program activities such as swim lessons, water aerobics, water polo, and general swim sessions.
  11. Report accidents, safety concerns, and statistics to the head lifeguard or facility director.
  12. Maintain safety and proper conduct among members by monitoring potential dangers and correcting behaviors as needed.
  13. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  14. Handle personnel, member, and other information confidentially.
  15. Understand and support the philosophy, standards, and policies of The Salvation Army, including volunteer supervision.
Working Conditions:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, reach overhead, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Lifeguard Certification, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) card and Aqua Aerobics Instructor certification are a plus.
  • AED Training Certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Valid driving license and clean MVR check (if applicable).
  • Criminal background check and certification for Protect the Mission policies if working near children.
Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Skills:
  • CPR/AED certification required.
