Position Summary
The Teacher is to plan, monitor, and coordinate activities to help children develop emotionally, physically, socially, and cognitively. The teacher encourages active learning through creative curriculum, loving interactions, and exploration in a safe, predictable environment.
Essential Functions
As an employee of The Salvation Army, representing, nurturing, protecting, and advancing its mission and purpose, and serving community needs with dignity and respect. Conduct on and off the job must support The Salvation Army's goals, programs, and public image.
- Develop creative curriculum lessons to support developmental needs of children with age-appropriate activities indoors and outdoors.
- Maintain a clean, organized, inviting classroom environment including centers in multiple educational subjects.
- Support ethical, cultural, and confidentiality standards, promoting diversity and anti-bias curriculum.
- Address behavioral and speech challenges fairly, firmly, and compassionately.
- Adhere to TSA code of ethics, program standards, policies, procedures, and licensing requirements.
- Assist in family-style dining, guiding children towards healthy eating habits aligned with CACFP.
- Keep classroom and outdoor areas clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety codes under Title 5 & 22 regulations.
- Maintain children's files as per directives and funding regulations.
- Document daily attendance, health checks, absences, sign-in/out, food program, and billing accurately.
- Complete necessary documentation promptly and organized.
- Record behavioral, speech, and developmental milestones for referrals.
- Assist with toilet needs when necessary.
- Complete assessments like DRDPs, ECERS, and SE-ASQ with proper attachments on time.
- Conduct parent conferences and communicate effectively with parents.
- Participate in professional training and complete mandatory annual trainings required by relevant authorities.
- Support Salvation Army campaigns and initiatives, including attending field trips.
- Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with colleagues, guests, members, volunteers, partners, and vendors.
- Serve as a mandated reporter and report child abuse immediately.
- Stay attentive and focused on children during duty hours.
Working Conditions
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist regularly.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects like files and reach overhead.
- Operate computers, tablets, copiers, and telephones.
- Lift up to 45 lbs repeatedly.
- Meet health and safety regulations per health department and licensing standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Child Development Associate Teacher permit from CTC.
- Valid Pediatric/Infant CPR and First Aid certification.
- Health screening form (LIC503) with TB clearance, in good physical and mental condition.
- Proof of vaccinations: Pertussis, MMR, and influenza or exemption documentation.
- Pass initial LiveScan/criminal background checks.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Capable of caring for young children.
- Effective written and spoken English skills.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Skilled in multitasking.
- Ability to identify problems and suggest solutions.
- Good relationship skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to program changes.
