Job Summary:
We are hiring a Manufacturing and Sourcing Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a strong background in tube and duct fabrication for aerospace applications. This dual-role position combines hands-on manufacturing expertise with supplier sourcing and fulfillment support. You will play a critical role in helping suppliers improve technical processes, meet delivery expectations, and ensure compliance with quality and procurement standards.
This role is available as either a 1099 contract or a W2 employment arrangement, based on candidate preference and project fit.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Engineering & Technical Oversight
*Lead supplier assessments focused on tube and duct forming, brazing, and welding
*Resolve technical issues in production, including quality escapes and delivery delays
*Conduct First Article Inspections (FAIs), PPAPs, and support RCCA documentation
*Mentor suppliers on best practices in machining, forming, and inspection of aerospace hardware
Supplier Sourcing & Fulfillment Support
*Support buyer and sourcing functions for critical aerospace commodities and fabricated parts
*Help ensure that subcontract activity aligns with organizational procurement policies and applicable government regulations
*Facilitate communication between suppliers and internal cross-functional teams regarding schedules, specifications, and budgets
*Assist with contract negotiations and supplier onboarding
Delivery Assurance & Continuous Improvement
*Drive supplier performance against on-time delivery (OTD) and first-time quality (FTQ) metrics
*Troubleshoot delivery and quality issues using Lean, Six Sigma, and standard work tools
*Lead or support corrective action planning, risk analysis, and supplier improvement initiatives
*Recommend alternative sourcing or process improvements as needed to meet quality and volume targets
Required Qualifications:
*10+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, sourcing, or supplier quality
*Technical expertise in tube and duct fabrication, including forming, welding, and finishing
*Knowledge of aerospace quality standards: AS9100, AS9145, PPAP, FAIRs
*Experience working with supplier performance, subcontract management, or direct purchasing
*Strong cross-functional communication and organizational skills
*Willing and able to travel 50%+ for on-site supplier engagement
Preferred Qualifications:
*Background in supplier development or fulfillment management within aerospace or defense
*Experience coordinating corrective actions or improvement plans at supplier sites
*Familiarity with digital tools for procurement, planning, or quality management
*Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and VSM methodologies
