JOB SUMMARY: The Water Technician will play a crucial role in the implementation and monitoring of the 106 Water Pollutions, USBR Water Resources Program, & the Water Rights Review grants. This position is responsible for conducting water well & surface water testing and monitoring activities, as well as providing support in program reporting and oversight. The Water Technician will work closely with the Water Pollution Control Program team to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safeguard the quality of water resources within the Kiowa Tribe's jurisdiction.RESPONSIBILITES:Conduct regular water well testing and monitoring activities, following established protocols and procedures to assess water quality and identify potential sources of pollution.Collect water samples from designated locations and conduct field measurements to assess parameters such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and nutrient levels.Operate and maintain field equipment, including water quality meters, pumps, and sampling devices, ensuring accurate data collection and instrument calibration.Perform laboratory analyses on water samples using appropriate methods and equipment, adhering to quality control protocols and data management procedures.Compile and analyze data collected from monitoring activities, identifying trends, and reporting findings to the Water Pollution Control Program team.Assist in the preparation of program reports, including progress reports, compliance documentation, and grant reporting requirements in accordance with EPA guidelines.Collaborate with other team members in developing strategies and recommendations for water quality improvement and pollution prevention initiatives.Provide technical support and assistance to the Water Pollution Control Program team, including attending meetings, training sessions, and public outreach events.Stay informed about current regulations, guidelines, and emerging technologies in water quality monitoring and contribute to the continuous improvement of monitoring practices.QUALIFICATIONS:Associate's degree or equivalent certification in Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or a related field. Bachelor's degree is preferred.Minimum of 2 years of experience in water quality monitoring, preferably within an environmental agency or organization.Knowledge of water sampling techniques, water quality parameters, and relevant federal and state regulations, including those established by the EPA.Familiarity with water well testing procedures, including equipment operation, maintenance, and data interpretation.Proficiency in using computer software and databases for data entry, analysis, and reporting.Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with team members, tribal officials, and external stakeholders.Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities and environmental conditions.Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various locations within the tribal jurisdiction.REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge of EPA regulations and guidelines related to water quality monitoring and pollution control, including the 106 Water Pollutions grant program.Familiarity with water sampling techniques, equipment, and laboratory analysis methods.Proficient in using computer software for data entry, analysis, and report generation.Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.Ability to follow established protocols and procedures for data collection and laboratory analysis.Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and address unexpected challenges in the field.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders.Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet project deadlines.Commitment to environmental stewardship and protecting water resources.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:The Water Technician will primarily work in an office and laboratory environment, with frequent fieldwork to collect water samples and conduct monitoring activities.
