The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at checkout.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  2. Maintain uniform standards, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
  3. Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using our Guest Services script based on the division in which they serve. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name (if possible), offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
  4. Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  5. Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  6. Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  7. Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
  8. Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers to ensure accurate charging.
  9. Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  10. Ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  11. Check acceptable identification if necessary, using 36 sign-in, to ensure legal sales. Always be professional when checking IDs.
  12. Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  13. Issue receipts and any change due.
  14. Count change back to the guest accurately.
  15. Bag or box merchandise appropriately, using double bags for multiple bottles, boxes, and bottle protectors as needed.
  16. Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
  17. Compute and record totals of all transactions on the daily record sheet.
  18. Call the code for a cash drop once the limit is reached to maintain proper till balance.
  19. Keep work area clean and organized, avoiding overstocking.
  20. Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  21. Answer questions and provide information to guests courteously.
  22. Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  23. Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  24. Avoid using personal cell phones on the sales floor.
  25. Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  26. Monitor checkout station supplies such as register paper and bags.
  27. Assist in inventory preparation and process if needed.
  28. Follow management directives efficiently.
  29. Perform responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  30. Practice teamwork and cooperation.
  31. Manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  32. Manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
  33. Stand most of the shift, with occasional bending and walking. Use arms, hands, and fingers to handle, reach, lift (up to 25 lbs regularly, up to 50 lbs occasionally), push, and pull (50-100 lbs occasionally). Communicate effectively with team members and guests. Recognize product and payment methods.
Additional Requirements
  • Follow all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
  • Possibly clean restrooms.
  • Attendance and punctuality are required; working from home is not feasible for register duties.
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred; cashiering experience is a plus but willing to train the right candidate. Must be over 21 to work at Spec's.

Work Hours
  • Full-time: approximately 35 hours/week, available any shift on Friday or Saturday, 80% or more of shifts.
  • Part-time: up to 25 hours/week.
  • Schedule varies; unauthorized overtime without approval is prohibited.
Certificates and Licenses

Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit and possibly a Food Handlers Permit. The TABC course takes 2-3 hours; costs may be deducted from paycheck.

Physical Demands

Standing, walking, bending, handling, reaching, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing, and pulling (up to 100 lbs). Specific vision abilities required.

Work Environment

Moderate noise level, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, positive environment, and reliable attendance required.
