Job description

BooksTime is looking for a creative, resourceful IT and Security Specialist to join our growing team.

This role offers:

  • Flexible hours
  • Friendly & supportive colleagues

This position could be a great fit for an ambitious individual early in their career.

Who we are:

BooksTime is an ambitious, innovative accounting & bookkeeping startup with teams in 5 countries. BooksTime was founded in 2016 and we've been growing fast. For more information, check out our website: bookstime.com.

What you'll do:

As BooksTime has grown, so have our IT needs. Therefore, we’re looking to expand our IT department, which currently includes 3 full-time staff.

2 main functions:

  1. Support & Routine Operations: Responding to helpdesk support tickets from other employees, managing staff access and accounts in company systems when team members are onboarded or offboarded, and more.
  2. Strategic Initiatives: Working on projects to improve our IT systems, including automation projects, efforts to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and finding ways to increase the user-friendliness of our internal systems. For example, we are planning to migrate to new apps, which is a large undertaking.

As we grow and our IT processes evolve, we need to continually update the design of our security systems and policies. We also need to educate our team on these and enforce compliance.

Your level of involvement will depend on your level of IT and cybersecurity knowledge. At a minimum, we'll need help with the implementation of these. If you have some background in these areas, you can take on much more central roles in setting the direction for these initiatives. Either way, we will really value your ideas and input on everything that we do.

  • Make history: Our startup is still fairly small, but we have big plans to disrupt the accounting industry. This is a great opportunity to get in early at a startup that is on its way to becoming an industry leader.
  • Do work that matters: The projects you will be working on will be critical to the success of the company and our mission to modernize the accounting industry.
  • Grow with the company: As our company continues to grow, there will be many opportunities to take on new responsibilities and grow professionally.
  • Professional development: You'll get access to various cybersecurity certification courses as part of this role.
  • Constant Improvement: One of our core values at BooksTime is Constant Improvement. We are always pushing to do better, and every member of our team plays a role.
Requirements

Very strong interest in continually learning new IT systems.

Comfort with relatively unpredictable, ever-changing job functions as the IT needs of the company evolve over time.

Comfort figuring things out for the first time -- all the time. The work is all about investigating and finding creative solutions.

Comfortable working mostly independently. There are always people who are happy to help you brainstorm, but there are typically no step-by-step instructions available.

Organized, and with good project management skills.

Not required, but helpful:

Relevant experience is helpful but not essential. The key criterion is an interest in continual learning.

A security clearance is highly preferred.

So is a cybersecurity certification (none are required, but any of these would be a plus: CEH, GSEC, GMOB, GCFA, CISA, CISM, Comp TIA Security+ or CySA+, CISSP, SSCP, ECSA, LPT, etc.)

Work from home (we are big believers in remote work!);

Health insurance reimbursement plan (a QSEHRA plan);

Simple IRA with employer matching after 2 years;

Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) starting at 20 days for full-time employees.

Please note, we are not currently hiring residents in CA, CO, HI, IL, NV,NJ, NY, VT, or WA. , and strongly prefer candidates that live in EST or CST.
