Job Description

Seeking qualified applicants for the following role. The position goal is to assist teachers in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to provide the physical and emotional support needed to meet program goals.

Responsibilities

• Assist assigned student(s) with physical tasks such as putting on/off clothing, moving between rooms, using lavatory, feeding, and other personal care.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assist teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students’ needs, interests, or abilities.
• Establish supportive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Assist with supervision during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Assist teachers in supervising the playground, lavatories, cafeteria, and bus loading activities.
• Assist with lunch, snack, and clean‑up routines.
• Participate in in‑service training programs.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.

Qualifications

• Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher, 48 credit hours from a higher education institution, or passage of the ParaPro or Work Keys assessment.
• Demonstrated interest in children and education.
• Evidence of emotional maturity and stability necessary for specialized work.
• Ability to communicate and work successfully with staff and students.
• Some positions may require diapering, toileting, lifting and/or feeding. Please inquire at interview.

Additional Requirements

Work is generally conducted within the school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. The position involves sitting and moving around the office. Work is moderate in nature with regular lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, including pulling, pushing or reaching above desk or file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
