Job summary

North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Schools in Minnesota is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Special Education Paraeducator. This role runs Monday through Friday, 7:30–2:30, with an ASAP start date. The position pays $24.54 per hour and follows the labor agreement benefits.

You will support instructional activities, assist with planning, manage materials, and help implement IEP goals while maintaining student safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with one of the listed options for paraeducator eligibility.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and restrain students in emergencies.
• Strong communication, confidentiality, and teamwork skills.
• Completion of required training for the position.

Responsibilities

• Support instructional delivery and reinforce learning with students.
• Assist the teacher with planning, classroom setup, and material organization.
• Monitor student behavior, document progress, and support IEP goals.

Required Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
  • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
  • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelors degree, or

• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and restrain students in emergency situations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Completion of any required training necessary for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent (preferably in Education)
• Education assistant/paraprofessional or teaching experience
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Experience and/or training in behavior management

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the instruction of students by providing support and practical training to students in various subject matters
• Provide assistance to the teacher by performing such duties as:
  • Implementing instructional plans and assisting with the adaptation/modification of the curriculum as directed by the teacher
  • Preparing class schedules
  • Organizing learning materials
  • Assisting with classroom activities
• Assist educational staff in performing duties to meet the specific needs of students including, but not limited to:
  • Redirecting inappropriate behaviors of students in classrooms
  • Preparing food for and/or feeding students
  • Assisting in the physical movement of students
  • Diapering and toileting students
  • Escorting students to vocational training jobs
  • Chaperoning student community outings
  • Supervising students during bus loading and unloading
• Promote a safe and productive learning environment for students, ensuring that student needs are met by communicating with other staff about student needs
• Monitor and document the educational progress of students by performing evaluations of student progress and needs
• Record data pertaining to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting at all times
• Other related duties as assigned

May be regularly required to walk throughout a building and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds, and must be able to restrain students with proper training and assistance when needed, and may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
