Job summary

Onward Education is partnering with a Providence County school district in Rhode Island to hire a dedicated School Nurse (LPN) for the 2026-2027 school year. This part-time, onsite role provides 1:1 nursing support for a student with complex medical needs, ensuring safe access to instruction and participation in daily activities.

You will collaborate with school staff and the student’s support team, administering medications as required and delivering compassionate care throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Active Rhode Island LPN License required.
• Experience supporting students with medical and/or mobility needs preferred.
• Comfortable providing hands-on personal care support (toileting/feeding/transfers).
• Ability to lift and assist as needed (up to ~100 lbs with support; not dead weight).
• Calm, reliable, and safety-focused in both school and community environments.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with school teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated nursing support to a specific student with complex medical needs throughout the school day.
• Administer medications as required.
• Support student health, safety, and participation in educational activities (in-school and community settings).
• Assist with toileting support (including lifting assistance as needed).
• Assist with feeding plan support and monitoring.
• Provide wheelchair transfers and mobility support.
• Respond to medical events as they arise (including vomiting).
• accompany the student into the community for learning activities (restaurants, parks, YMCA).
• Push a wheelchair across varied terrain (including hills).
• Ride along in a school van during off-campus activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate with school staff and caregivers.
