Job summary

Gavin School District 37 is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Registered Nurse to provide continuous one-on-one nursing care for a student with a tracheostomy during the school day. You will work under the administration to apply professional nursing judgment within your licensed scope of practice.

Responsibilities include monitoring respiratory status, tracheostomy care, oxygen administration, medication delivery, and collaboration with school staff to ensure safety, dignity, and successful participation

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• Current CPR/AED or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Prior professional experience providing tracheostomy care required.
• Competency in tracheostomy assessment, suctioning, routine tracheostomy care, emergency tracheostomy replacement, oxygen administration, and recognition of respiratory distress.
• Pediatric nursing experience with medically fragile students or students with disabilities preferred.
• Master's degree preferred/required as noted.
• Competency in current medical technology and respiratory equipment.
• Computer literacy and ability to maintain accurate electronic documentation.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous nursing monitoring and support according to the student's healthcare-provider orders and plans.
• Assess respiratory status including work of breathing, airway patency, secretions, skin color, breath sounds, and oxygen saturation.
• Perform tracheostomy suctioning, stoma care, oxygen administration, and other prescribed procedures.
• Monitor tracheostomy tube, ties, humidification, suction, and oxygen equipment.
• Maintain access to emergency tracheostomy bag, tubes, suction, and supplies.
• Respond to respiratory distress and emergencies; perform emergency interventions per plan.
• Accompany and monitor student during classroom activities and transitions.
• Document nursing assessments, treatments, and communications accurately.
