Job summary

Windham Public Schools in Windham, CT, is seeking a 1:1 paraeducator at Windham Middle School to support a student with special needs and assist in classroom activities.

You will work under the supervision of the classroom teacher, help with behavior goals, adapt materials, and collaborate with staff and families.

Days are Monday through Friday, with salary in line with the WFEP contract and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in a school setting is preferred.
• Ability to implement behavioral goals for students.
• Understanding of child development concepts and stages.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.
• Active listening and carrying out guidance from teachers.
• Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with physical and/or educational needs both individually and in small groups.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding students' needs and requirements, including the IEP goals.
• Provide escort and mobility assistance to student(s) when necessary
• Receive oral or written instructions from the supervising teacher
• Record student learning data as directed
• Assist in the preparation and distribution of lesson plan materials
• Communicate positively with parents on the progress of students
• Act as an expert classroom support to substitute in the absence of the teacher
• Assist students with classwork
• Assist with recess, supervision, restroom breaks, emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, etc.
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
• Attend meetings and professional development training as required
• Prepare materials for class projects
• Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
• Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
• Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher/Principal
