Job summary

Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support two men with developmental disabilities in a home setting in Camillus/Marcellus, NY. The role focuses on daily activities to help maintain independence, personal goals, and social skills during daytime hours.

The DSP will assist with communication, living skills, meal preparation, and daily documentation. Prior disability support experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a valid email address.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.
• Must demonstrate sound decision‑making skills.
• Must understand the Agency mission and support person‑centered services.
• Must demonstrate patience and compassion.
• Must read and write and comprehend instructions.
• Must have basic reasoning and problem solving abilities.
• Background checks required.
• Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred.
• Previous 1:1 experience in related services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide in‑home support to two men to help them maintain as much independence as possible.
• Spend time with them during the day and help them work toward personal goals.
• Build social skills and independent living skills (cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal care).
