Job summary

Applitrack seeks a dedicated classroom facilitator to work closely with an exceptional student, helping him/her access the instructional program.

Reports to Classroom Teacher, Principal, and other administrators; salary and benefits follow Board of Education terms. The role includes assisting with self-care tasks and classroom integration while supporting staff and maintaining professional relationships.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the student with self-help and self-care skills (moving between rooms, using the lavatory, toileting).
  • Performs simple errands for the student (sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays).
  • Accompanies the student to the office or other areas as appropriate.
  • Establishes a positive relationship to encourage independent functioning.
  • Serves as a resource to the student evaluation team.
  • Participates in professional development related to the assignment.
  • Facilitates integration of the student into the regular classroom.
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with staff.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries with the student.
  • Cooperates with the teacher to create positive solutions.
  • Helps the child develop personal and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains flexible attitude in classroom situations.
  • Shows genuine concern and respect for students.
  • Assists with arrival and dismissal of students, including walkers and bus riders.
  • Rides the bus with the student if specified in IEP/504 where needed.
  • Sanitizes materials/equipment per program and board policy.
  • When not needed by the student, circulates to assist other students as needed.
  • Carries out other appropriate activities as assigned by the teacher.

JOB SUMMARY:

To work closely with an exceptional student on a regular basis in an effort to provide him/her with an environment in which he/she can take full advantage of the instructional program.

REPORTS TO:

Classroom Teacher, Principal, and other administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary, benefits, and work year as established in the Board of Education.

SALARY:

$17/hour

IMRF

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists the assigned student with self-help and self-care skills such as moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and toileting assistance, etc.

2. Performs simple errands and tasks for the student such as sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, etc.

3. Accompanies the student to the office or to other areas of the building if appropriate.

4. Establishes a positive relationship with the student encouraging independent functioning without fostering emotional involvement.

5. Serves as a resource persona to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about student to whom assigned.

6. Participates in professional development as it relates to his/her job/student assignment.

7. Facilitates the integration of the special education student into the regular classroom.

8. Establishes cooperative relationships with other staff members.

9. Helps the student maintain limits which define or structure a situation in a positive manner.

10. Cooperates with the teacher to create positive solutions to problems.

11. Helps the child to develop appropriate personal and interpersonal skills.

12. Maintains flexible attitude and approach towards classroom situations.

13. Shows a genuine concern and respect for the student(s).

14. Helps to supervise the arrival and dismissal of students to and from school, including walkers and those provided with bus transportation.

15. If specified in the student's IEP/504, the facilitator may be requested to ride the bus both to and from school.

16. Sanitize materials/equipment in accordance with program and board policy.

17. When the assigned student is not in need of assistance or absent, the facilitator should circulate and assist other students in the classroom, as needed.

18. Carries out other appropriate activities as assigned by the teacher.
