Job summary

Advocates Incorporated is seeking a compassionate Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to assist a woman with a developmental disability who uses a wheelchair in Cicero, NY. The role involves helping with daily living tasks, errands, meal prep, and personal care as needed, while ensuring a clean, safe living space.

You will accompany her on community outings using a wheelchair-accessible van, and gain training on safe transfers with a Hoyer lift. Reliable logging of time and mileage is required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must have a valid email address.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.
• Must demonstrate sound decision-making.
• GED or High School Diploma preferred; applicable job experience preferred.
• Knowledge of disability related issues preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with independent living activities including errands, grocery shopping, and meal preparation.
• Provide personal care assistance as needed and keep living space clean and organized.
• Accompany the client on outings using a wheelchair-accessible van.
• Learn to operate a Hoyer lift for safe transfers if not already trained.
• Electronically log each day’s time, mileage, and service documentation.
