Long Term Substitute for Physical Education Teacher (Grades 5-8) Approximately September 16th to Decemeber 11, 2026
Position Overview

The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:

  • All students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;
  • In the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;
  • In the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success; and
  • In meeting students' academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success
Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.This position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Primary Responsibilities

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and administers school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the c school system.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Preferred candidates will have a bachelor's degree anda demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related to the content area.Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
    • Elementary school curriculum and concepts.
    • Data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
    • Applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to:
    • Use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    • Organize and coordinate work.
    • Communicate effectively with students and parents.
    • Engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications

The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree, with a Master's degree preferred,and current Minnesota State Licensure in Physical Education.Additional demonstrated qualifications include: commitment to the equitable education of all students, creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills. Previous experience working with studentsusing differentiation, guided reading, and technology skills preferred. Prefer candidate with experience working with diverse learners.

Licensing Requirements

Current Minnesota Physical Educationlicense or eligibility is required. Additional licensure in Health Education preferred.

  • MN State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher.
  • MN State Certification as a Health Teacher preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Salary and Benefits

The starting pay for this position is $170/day and$270.91 - $395.58 per day (After 30 days with back pay to 1st day). Your initial placement is dependent on your qualifications (education and years of relevant experience within the district).
