Job summary

Corbett Grade School is seeking a High School Counselor for grades 9-12 on a temporary basis. The role will focus on providing individualized and group counseling, developing and implementing programs to support academic and personal success. Applicants must hold a relevant counseling license and are encouraged to possess bi-lingual skills.

Qualifications

  • Hold a TSPC Personnel Services License with a School Counselor endorsement.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and social skills curriculum required.
  • Experience in a school setting preferred.

Job Description

Job Title: High School Counselor (Grades 9-12, Temporary)

Position Summary:

The School Counselor implements a comprehensive program to guide and assist high school students in developing skills for success throughout grades 9-12. Counselors provide services to build competencies in academic, career, and personal/social development, promoting lifelong learning, working, and living skills through collaboration with home, school, and community. The role involves guiding individual students and supporting the school's overall environment, requiring a diverse skill set and experience.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students
  • Assess and address students' academic, career, and social/emotional needs
  • Develop and implement counseling programs
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents
  • Assist students with academic and career goal setting
  • Facilitate college and career exploration
  • Address personal and social issues
  • Conduct workshops and presentations
  • Maintain records and documentation
  • Monitor academic progress and intervene when needed
  • Refer students to external resources
  • Provide crisis support
  • Promote a positive school climate
  • Advocate for students' needs
  • Stay updated on policies and best practices
  • Participate in professional development
  • Evaluate counseling program effectiveness
  • Consult with school teams and families on crisis and safety plans
  • Support students with complex mental health needs
  • Collaborate with community organizations and agencies

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a TSPC Personnel Services License with a School Counselor, Psychologist, or Social Worker endorsement, or an LCSW/CSWA license
  • Knowledge of classroom management, social skills curriculum, and suicide prevention
  • Understanding of community resources and psychological report interpretation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a school setting
  • Bi-lingual/Bicultural skills in Chinese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, or Vietnamese
  • Master's degree in School Counseling

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Class C Oregon driver's license and use of a personal vehicle; possible need for a Type 10 Driver's license for school vehicle use
  • Availability for evening and weekend activities and meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned

Start Date: August 14, 2025, until filled

Work schedule includes a 4-day student contact week, with some Fridays and evenings, through at least December 31, 2025. Salary prorated based on days worked.
