Position Summary

The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher supports the language acquisition needs ofLanguage Learners within our K-5 Dual Language program. This role is responsible for delivering designatedlanguageinstruction aligned to state Language Proficiency standards, collaborating with classroom and dual-language teachers to embed integrated ELD strategies, and monitoring student progress toward English proficiency and reclassification. The ideal candidate is passionate about bilingual education, understands second language acquisition, and is committed to supporting the academic and linguistic growth of multilingual learners.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction
  • Plan and deliver daily designated language development instruction to students at varying proficiency levels (Emerging, Expanding, Bridging), using scaffolded, standards-aligned lesson plans.
  • Differentiate instruction based on students' language proficiency levels, native language literacy, and individual learning needs.
  • Integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skill development into engaging, culturally responsive lessons.
  • Use formative assessment strategies to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaboration
  • Partner with dual-language classroom teachers to align language development instruction with content-area learning goals.
  • Provide coaching and support to grade-level teams on integrated ELD strategies
  • Participate in grade-level, department, and school-wide professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, in partnership with bilingual staff as needed.
Assessment & Compliance
  • Administer and analyze results from English language proficiency assessments (e.g., ELPAC, WIDA ACCESS, or state-equivalent).
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, proficiency levels, and reclassification eligibility.
  • Support the reclassification process for English Learners in accordance with district and state guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with Title III and English Learner program requirements.
Professional Growth
  • Stay current on best practices in second language acquisition, bilingual education, and biliteracy development.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to ELD standards, dual language pedagogy, and culturally responsive teaching.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid state teaching credential/license.
  • Authorization to teach English Learners (e.g., ELD/ESL/Bilingual Authorization, CLAD/BCLAD, ESOL endorsement, or state equivalent).
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and English language development standards.
  • Strong understanding of scaffolding techniques and differentiated instruction.
Preferred
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English or other program language) preferred.
  • Master's degree in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or related field.
  • Familiarity with WIDA or state-specific English Language Proficiency standards.
  • Experience with data-driven instruction and progress monitoring tools.
