Job description

Note: The Social Coordinator responsibilities in this job description are an additional duty assigned on top of the Bookseller position — not a standalone job or a change to the Bookseller's core position.

Bookseller Responsibilities
  • Provides customers with the highest level of customer service by greeting each customer, communicating and assisting customers with questions and orders, and efficient cashiering.
  • Sales of all products and promotion of point of sale initiatives including Membership programs, Magazine for Millionaires program, Educator programs, and other company-sponsored programs.
  • Balances cash drawer following each register shift within allowable variances as identified in the Loss Prevention Policy.
  • Delivers and places product on the sales floor in accordance with merchandising guidelines and timelines.
  • Recovers the sales floor during each shift, including, but not limited to picking up items, shelving books and product, straightening bookshelves and tables, and store housekeeping tasks as required.
  • Protects company assets by adhering to all loss prevention standards and acting with integrity in all transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to assisting in other departments, receiving shipments, small fixture assembly and maintenance, assisting with inventory, and restroom cleanliness.
Social Coordinator Responsibilities (Additional Assigned Duty)
  • Consistently posts content within established timelines and in alignment with the Store Social Coordinator Brand Standards.
  • Maintain assigned business profiles, ensuring category information, hours, location, and contact information are accurate, and respond to customer reviews on a consistent cadence.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar to plan posts in advance across platforms.
  • Create and select content using corporate-approved templates, logos, and brand colors — never modifying or recreating brand assets.
  • Rotate content across established pillars: new arrivals/product, staff picks, community/local tie-ins, store moments, promotions/events, and engagement content.
  • Write in a brand-appropriate voice that reflects the assigned chain's tone (BAM/YOMO or 2nd & Charles) while allowing authentic local personality to come through.
  • Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages consistently and within business hours, prioritizing genuine engagement to build lasting community relationships.
  • Recognize and immediately elevate any comment or message involving safety, legal exposure, HR-sensitive allegations, or media/influencer inquiries to the General Manager or Manager on Duty — never respond to these independently.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of all required background screenings
  • Comfortable creating and posting both photo and short-form video content
  • Basic short-form video skills (filming and light editing) no professional production experience required.
  • Clear, professional written communication skills.
  • Genuine familiarity with and enthusiasm for the store's product and community.
  • Sound judgment regarding what is appropriate to post and when to elevate rather than respond.
  • Ability to plan ahead using a content calendar and maintain a consistent cadence within existing work hours.

Computer and cash register skills Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate a keyboard and telephone for repetitive motion activities

  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without an assistive device
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, or crouch while performing daily activities of the job
Social Coordinator Time Commitment

This duty is designed to take approximately 30-45 minutes per day when using approved templates and tools. Time spent performing Social Coordinator duties should be recorded per store timekeeping procedures.

Social Coordinator Performance Standards

Performance in this duty is evaluated by store and district leadership on: Standard Expectation Posting consistency Minimum required posts made on required platforms Brand compliance Correct logo/color usage, approved templates, no sensitive content posted. Response time Comments and direct messages addressed consistently and within business hours. Escalation judgment Sensitive items escalated per the Brand Standards — not handled independently. 3 Reporting Content calendar maintained; profile performance and response-time reporting reviewed regularly.
